| SYMPTOM/CONDITION: Momentary loss of power steering assist when driving through heavy rain and/or deep puddles. Loss of power steering is caused by water intrusion into the accessory drive belt area. |
| DIAGNOSIS: Inspect the belt for glazing and/or cracks, if either is found replace the belt following the repair procedure found in the 1997 Neon Service Manual (Publication No. 81-270-7025) Page 7-21.Determine the road conditions the driver of the vehicle was encountering at the time the loss of power assist was experienced. If the driver indicates the loss of power steering assist was during times of heavy rain or deep puddles, perform the Repair Procedure. |

| REPAIR PROCEDURE: This bulletin involves correcting the tension on the power steering accessory drive belt. 1. Loosen the power steering pump locking bolts A and B and pivot bolt C(Illustration 1 and 2) to allow adjustment of belt tension. 2. Using a 1/2" breaker bar, adjust belt tension by applying torque to the square hole "D" on the power steering pivot bracket. Adjust the tension as follows: Belt tension with no belt replacement:
