REPAIR PROCEDURE:
This repair procedure involves replacing the speed control servo, and replacing the servo
wiring connector, as well as adding the splash shield extension.1. Position the vehicle
on a suitable hoist.
2. Remove the left front wheel/tire assembly. Raise the vehicle to a suitable height to
comfortably reach the inner shield area.
3. Remove the push pins connecting the inner fender shield to the speed control splash
shield. Figure 1
4. Position the splash shield extension between the splash shield and the inner
fender well. Install the 2 push pins. The top of the shield extension will be loose
against the frame rail. Figure 2
5. Hold the shield against the frame rail. Using the shield as a template, mark the
position of the two upper holes. Figure 3
6. Drill two 1/4" diameter holes at the spots previously marked. Figure 4 NOTE: THERE ARE NO COMPONENTS BEHIND THE METAL,
BUT DRILL ONLY ENOUGH TO CREATE THE HOLE.
7. Install the two push pins through the shield into the 1/4" holes drilled in step

8. Install the tire/wheel assembly and torque lug nuts to 100 ft. lbs. Lower the vehicle.
9. Remove the speed control servo following the procedures in the Neon Service Manual
(Publication No. 81-270-5025) page 8H-11.
10. Remove and discard the push nuts retaining the cable bell housing to the servo.
11. Remove the retaining clip holding the cable to the servo.
12. Install the new wiring connector kit(P/N 4883499AA) per the instruction sheet found in
the wiring kit.
NOTE: THE BLUE/RED WIRE ON THE NEW CONNECTOR SPLICES WITH THE WHITE/BROWN WIRE IN THE
WIRING HARNESS. ALL OTHER WIRE COLORS MATCH
13. Install the retaining clip to the cable and servo.
14. Slide the cable bell housing over the servo mounting studs.
15. Install the speed control servo following the procedures in the Neon Service Manual
(Publication No. 81-270-5025) page 8H-11.
NOTE: INSPECT THE VACUUM HOSE CONNECTIONS AT THE VACUUM RESERVOIR TO INSURE THAT THE
MOVEMENT HAS NOT LOOSENED THE CONNECTIONS. PUSH TOGETHER AS REQUIRED. |
