NO: 09-02-94
GROUP: Engine
DATE: Mar. 18, 1994
MODELS: 1995 (PL) Neon
SYMPTOM/CONDITION: Engine oil seepage around or under camshaft position sensor.
PARTS REQUIRED: 1 4667745 Seal, Camshaft Position Sensor
REPAIR PROCEDURE:
This bulletin involves replacing the camshaft position sensor seal with a new part (Figure 1).

1. Disconnect the filtered air tube from the throttle body and air cleaner housing. Disconnect the air tube from the oil separator hose. Remove filtered air tube.

2. Remove the air cleaner inlet tube.

3. Disconnect electrical connectors from engine coolant sensor and camshaft position sensor.

4. Remove brake booster hose and electrical connector from holders on the end of the cylinder head cover.

5. Remove camshaft position sensor mounting screws.

6. Remove sensor and remove oil seal from sensor.

7. Fit new seal P/N 4667745 into groove in the sensor and press lightly in three positions approximately 120° apart. Place the cam position sensor, seal side down, on a clean flat surface and gently press down to fully seat the seal into the groove (Figure 2).

8. Re-install cam position sensor on the cylinder head and tighten mounting screws to 80 In. Lbs. (9 Nm).

NOTE: CAREFULLY INSERT CAM SENSOR CONNECTOR STRAIGHT INTO SENSOR, ANGLING CONNECTOR COULD RESULT IN BENT/BROKEN CONNECTOR PINS.

9. Re-install all components previously removed by reversing steps 1 through 4.

POLICY: Reimbursable within the provisions of the warranty.
