SUBJECT: Idle Air Control Motor Whistle

SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
A high-pitched whistling noise from the engine con partment is noticeable at idle. The noise may be more prevalent when the engine is idling in gear and under a load; such as air conditioning, or headlamps on. No whistling noise can be heard while cruising.
DIAGNOSIS:
Place the gear selector in park or neutral, set the parking brake and start the engine. Let the engine idle for several minutes (3 to 5 minutes). Verify there are no vacuum leaks in the engine con partment. Listen for the whistle noise. Increase the engine RPM s to around 1200 using the throttle. If the whistle sound goes away, perform the repair procedure below.

REPAIR PROCEDURE:

This bulletin involves the replacement of the idle air control motor.

1. Following the procedures outlined in the 1995 Neon Service Manual, Publication No. 81-270-5025 pages 14-45 and 14-46, replace the idle air control motor with new motor P/N 4796503.

2. Run the engine at idle to verify the condition has been corrected.
