| REPAIR PROCEDURE: This bulletin involves resetting the steering column preload. NOTE: THIS PROCEDURE MUST BE PERFORMED WITH THE WEIGHT OF THE VEHICLE SUPPORTED BY THE TIRES/SUSPENSION. Detach the lower steering column intermediate shaft from the steering gear shaft(see Figure). This allows the steering column preload to reset. Reattach the intermediate shaft to the steering gear using a new bolt, p/n06502413. Tighten bolt to 27 Nm (240 in.lbs.). Install retaining pin into the bolt (see Figure). NOTE: A NEW STEERING GEAR COUPLING PINCH BOLT, P/N 06502413, MUST BE USED WHEN REATTACHING THE INTERMEDIATE SHAFT TO THE STEERING GEAR. THIS BOLT HAS A LOCKING PATCH THAT IS DESTROYED WHEN THE NUT IS REMOVED. |
