| SYMPTOM/CONDITION: The carpet pile separates from the backing material in patchesleaving bare spots. This occurs primarily in the tunnel formationarea. |
| DIAGNOSIS: Using your fingers, pull on the pile in a formed area or an area ofthe carpet with a vertical surface. If the carpet pile pulls outeasily in little tufts (without the use of pliers or other grippingtool) proceed with the following repair. |

| REPAIR PROCEDURE: This bulletin involves replacing the carpet with a revisedpart. 1. Remove the front seats, rear seat cushion, front and rear seat beltlower anchor bolts, deck lid remote release mechanism (if soequipped), cowl trim covers, front and rear door sill trimcovers, and center floor console as outlined in the 1995 NeonService Manual (Publication No. 81270-5025), Pgs. 23-20 through23-25. NOTE: DO NOT LIFT THE INSTRUMENT PANEL TO REMOVE OR INSTALL THE CARPET AS THIS MAY RESULT IN DAMAGE TO THE HEATER/AIR CONDITIONING UNIT AND INSTRUMENTATION AND MAY CAUSE UNNECESSARY BUZZ, SQUEAKS OR RATTLES. 2. Cut the carpet in three places - under the instrument panel in themiddle of the tunnel formation, under the shifter and under theshifter cables (See Illustration). 3. Loosen the bottom of the B-Pillar trim molding by disengaging thebottom two push clips and pull the carpet out from underneath.Fold carpet in half toward rear seat and remove carpet throughrear door opening. 4. Obtain a new carpet as called out in the parts section. Beforeinstalling the new carpet, it will be necessary to cut thereplacement carpet along the mold line on the underside of thetunnel formation and in the areas of the shifter and shiftercables. 5. Install the carpet in the car making sure to stuff the carpet inthe cut areas under the instrument panel, shifter and shiftercables. Push the carpet under both B-Pillar trim moldings and re-secure the moldings to the B-Post. 6. Hook the carpet at the four points along both sides over the sillframe. Re-install all trim covers, center console, seat beltattachments and seats. |
