SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
Water may enter the air cleaner housing from the cowl and be ingested into the engine. This could cause internal engine damage. To correct this condition, a drain hole must be drilled in the air cleaner housing and the cowl must be sealed.

Dealer Notification  Vehicle List

Involved dealers: Each dealer to whom involved vehicles were invoiced (or the current dealer at the same street address) will receive a copy of this dealer notification letter and a list of the involved vehicles by first class mail.

The Vehicle List is arranged in Vehicle Identification Number (YIN) sequence. Owners known to Chrysler are also listed. The lists are for dealer reference in arranging for service of involved vehicles.

All other dealers: Each Dodge and Chrysler­Plymouth dealer who does not receive a Vehicle List will receive a copy of this dealer notification letter by first class mail.

DIAL System Function 70

All involved vehicles will be entered to DIAL System Function 70 at the time of notification mailing for dealer inquiry by VIN as needed.

Owner Notification and Service Scheduling

All involved vehicle owners known to Chrysler are being notified of the service requirement by first class mail. They are requested to schedule appointments for the service with their dealers. A copy of the owner notification letter is attached.

Enclosed with each owner notification is an Owner Notification Form. The involved vehicle and notification are identified on the form for owner or dealer reference as needed.

Service Procedure

A. Air Cleaner Drain Hole:

1. Remove the fresh air inlet duct from the air cleaner housing (Figure 1).

2. Unfasten the clips on the top of the air cleaner housing. Then rotate the front half of the housing forward and lift away from the rear half of the air cleaner housing (Figure 2).

3. Remove the air cleaner element and inspect for water in the rear half of the housing. Remove any water present.

4. Drill a 1/2 inch (14 mm) hole in the bottom of the front half of the air cleaner housing as shown in Figure 3.

5. Reinstall the air cleaner element and front housing.

6. Reinstall the fresh air intake duct.

B. Seal Cowl:

1. Remove the cowl­to­hood weather-strip (Figure 2).

2. Lay the weather-strip flat on a bench with the flanged bottom channel facing up.

3. Apply a 1/4 inch (6 mm) bead of RTV sealer (either PN 4318025, PN 82300234 or equivalent) in the channel for the entire length of the weather-strip.

4. Reinstall the weather-strip on the cowl flange. Be sure to fully seat the weather-strip. Wipe off any excess sealer.

Completion Reporting and Reimbursement

Claims for vehicles which have been serviced must be submitted on the DIAL System. Claims submitted will be used by Chrysler to record notification service completions and provide dealer payments.
